CASE STUDY 2
VIDEO TO GO
This photo shoot was for a tech feature about new portable entertainment systems appearing in Cigar Aficionado, a luxury celebrity magazine for men. Budget constraints prevented shooting these electronic devices on location on various forms of transportation.
Rather than shoot on location, I proposed sourcing antique model forms of each type of transportation: model cars, airplane, train, helicopter, rocket. We would shoot each in a studio on white and make the video device interact with the means of transport. Then, in post-production, I would source film stills that related to each form of transportation ("Murder on the Orient Express" for the train page, for example) and superimpose them over the blank screens of the tech devices. By shooting on white, the text could wrap around the model transportation devices in ways that would appear to animate them.
I hired Jeff Harris, a still life photographer with a penchant for glorifying simple objects on white.
